Pilsner:  Golden to Copper color, citrusy hops, light body, and a dry finish. Ex. Heineken, Sessions, Pilsner Urquell.

Lager:  Mainstream beers, light bronze to golden color light hop flavor. Ex. Bud, Miller, Coors.

Bock & Doppelbock:  Color ranges from pale golden to dark, malty, full bodies, strong, can be higher in alcohol. Ex. Shiner Bock, Spaten Optimator, and Paulaner Salvator.

Ales: Comes in many different styles, from Brown, Amber, Strong, Belgian, to Pale ales. Color varies on style from brown to red, to golden and the alcohol content also varies. Ex. New Belgium Fat Tire, Maredsous 8, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Dogfish Head India Brown.

Weisse: Beer made from wheat, notes of fruit, cloudy, hazy, yellow, and citric. Ex. Hofbrauhaus Hefeweizen, Shiner Hefe, Pyramid Amber Hefeweizen, and Spaten Dunkel.

Marzen & Oktoberfest: Seasonal beers ranging from spring to fall, bronze in color, slightly sweet palate, a session beer. Ex. Spaten Oktoberfest and Hacker Pshorr Oktoberfest.

India Pale Ale (IPA):  Fruity, golden, hoppy, medium to strong body, crisp and bittering. Ex. Sierra Nevada, Real Ale Full Moon, Victory Hop Devil, and Dogfish Head 60 minute.

Porters & Stouts:  strong bodies, very malty, roasted flavors, can be dry or sweet on the palate, and very dark or black beer. Ex. Guinness Stout, Murphy’s Stout, Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal, and Deschutes’s Black Butte Porter.
